Oren Gabriel currently serves as Chief of Staff to the CFO of the University of California. Oren provides strategic guidance, decision making, resource planning, policy development, communications and program development in the areas of asset management, debt management, the systemwide operating budget, capital finance and planning, procurement and financial accounting. The CFO Division oversees all aspects of financial management for the University of California system, which includes ten UC campuses, five academic medical centers, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The UC system educates nearly 265,000 students and has an annual budget of over $31 billion.
Prior to joining the University of California, Oren worked in the San Francisco office of Bain & Company, where he advised clients in the biotechnology, public utility, and technology sectors on issues of business strategy and operations. His time at Bain also included extended engagements with entities in the non-profit and social enterprise sectors, including the Bridgespan Group and the Omidyar Network. Oren earned his MBA and a Certificate in Public Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he was selected as an Arbuckle Leadership Fellow. He received his B.S. in Business Administration with High Honors from the U.C. Berkeley Haas School of Business. At Berkeley, Oren served as President of the Associated Students of the University of California and was a Regents Scholar. He also was a practice player on the Cal Women’s Basketball team.
