Hillel Scholarship Application

Berkeley Hillel is excited to offer scholarships for immersive experiences and conferences that enrich a Jewish student’s learning & growth at Cal.

Examples of experiences we’ve awarded scholarships in the past include:

  • Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly
  • Winter Singing Intensive at Mechon Hadar in New York City
  • Svara Queer Talmud Camp
  • AIPAC Policy Conference
  • Learning at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem
  • JStreet National Conference
  • Hillel National Basketball Tournament in DC

Want to apply for something that is not on this list? Great! We look forward to exploring new possibilities with you. Please note that we do NOT offer scholarships for study abroad experiences.

How are scholarships awarded?
Scholarships are awarded based on several factors, including but not limited to:  Total cost of the trip, Total scholarship funding available, potential impact on the participant, potential impact on Cal’s Jewish community, etc.
Scholarships from Hillel never cover the whole cost of a trip, but we can make recommendations where students can apply for additional funding.

What are the expectations of a scholarship?
Berkeley Hillel believes that it is not only important to support student participation in experiences that will impact them personally and Jewishly, but also in facilitating the student bringing the experience back to campus to enrich our community. After submitting the application, you will be contacted by a member of the staff to set up a time to discuss the application and scholarship award, and to determine the expectations for bringing the experience back to our community.
