Food, Judaism, Justice

For many Jews, food and justice are core, but very separate, aspects of their Jewish identity. In this series, we will seek to bridge that gap, bringing the essentiality of food and our commitment to justice together. Over the course of a few weeks, we will engage in immersive learning on food and food systems, how people, animals, and the environment experience injustice in relation to food, and how Jewish text and history compels us to be voices in the food justice movement.
The series will contain a variety of speakers and student-led workshops, culminating in a Shabbaton at Urban Adamah from April 6th – 8th. Dinner will be provided at all events, and food and lodging will be provided at the Shabbaton.
The dates for all of the events are as follows:
  • March 8th from 6:15 – 7:30 pm: Introduction to Food Justice
  • March 15th from 6:15 – 7:30 pm: Presentation by Jewish Veg
  • March 22nd from 6:15 – 7:30 pm: Food Justice & Intersectionality Workshop
  • April 6th (Arriving at 4 pm)  – April 8th (departing at 12 pm): Shabbaton at Urban Adamah
