Book Club: Can We Talk About Israel?

April 3 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Yes, let’s! In an exciting new Fellowship opportunity, Rav Maya and Noga will join you in reading and discussing Can We Talk About Israel? A Guide for the Curious, Confused, and Conflicted by Daniel Sokatch. In this book club, we’ll move through this informative, accessible, and thorough guide to the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (and what makes it so hard to talk about), we’ll grapple with the good, the bad, and the ugly together, and we’ll start to build skills for having conversations across difference.

“Can’t you just explain the Israel situation to me? In, like, ten minutes or less?” This is the question Daniel Sokatch regularly answers as head of the New Israel Fund, an organization dedicated to equality and democracy for all Israelis, not just Jews. Can We Talk About Israel? is the story of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, grappling with a century-long struggle between two peoples that both perceive themselves as (and indeed are) victims. And it’s an attempt to explain why Israel (and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) inspires such extreme feelings.
