Avital Raff

Title: Director of Social Action and Community Engagement

Avital is so excited to be joining the Berkeley Hillel team and community! She loves organizing for justice, building Jewish community, and braiding challah! She is elated to do all three in her role as the Director of Social Action and Community Engagement. She is a graduate of Barnard College where she studied Education and Gender Studies and wrote her honors thesis on the role of queer Jewish womanhood in Holocaust education. Avital served as the Community Organizer at The Kitchen in San Francisco, where she brought justice education to the progressive nondenominational synagogue. Before coming to the Jewish non-profit world, she organized for Democrats in Michigan and Missouri on college campuses. Outside of Hillel, Avital loves planning elaborate parties for her friends, baking, dancing, and hunting for bargains.
