Description
Berkeley Hillel seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist in social media marketing and communications efforts. This Internship is an excellent opportunity to train skills in social media marketing and strategy while working in a casual work environment. The Berkeley Hillel Social Media and Communications Internship is a professional skills Internship designed to assist the Engagement Associate in planning and implementing social media communications and marketing strategy. The Communications Intern will work independently, and will meet regularly with Hillel Staff, to carry out the organization’s daily social media marketing efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn
- Working toward a college degree (position open to First-Years, Sophomores, and Juniors only), preferably in a related field (e.g., Humanities, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
- Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
- Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling and exciting marketing materials to advertise Hillel programming and initiatives
- Self-starter, good time management, creative
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with a team
- Able to adjust quickly and accommodate daily requests for social media posts
- Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with social media management tools such as Hootsuite preferred
- Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus
- Proficiency in Canva, Adobe InDesign and/or Photoshop highly desired
- Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design a plus
Responsibilities
- Meet weekly with Hillel staff to plan, design, and schedule weekly social media posts
- Design event/program fliers, graphics and other marketing materials
- Create social media marketing calendar, with Hillel staff support, incorporating Jewish and other major holidays and events
- Create and manage a system for staff and student leaders to send social media materials for future posts
- Provide input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns
- Work creatively with Hillel staff to increase “followship” on all social media platforms
- Maintain a knowledge base of social media trends and ideas to implement
- Create and boost online advertisements as needed
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours: 3-4 hours/week, including weekly planning meeting with supervisor
Compensation: $16.07/hour
